Warren County is known as the Canoe Capital of Virginia, thanks in part to the 39 miles of scenic waterways better known as the North and South forks of the Shenandoah River that meet just west of the town of Front Royal, and the main river that continues toward Clarke County, northward.

Front Royal Canoe Company, 8567 Stonewall Jackson Hwy (US 340) operates from April 1 through Oct. 31 and offers canoe, kayak, raft and tube rentals and horseback trail rides. Mid-week and weekend group discount packages are available. No one younger than 6 years old is allowed on a canoe, kayak or tube trips, although children 4 years old and older are allowed on raft trips with at least two adults in the raft.

There is a three person maximum for canoes. Packages include canoe, paddles, life vests, maps, shuttle service and basic instruction. Horseback rides can range from one hour to more than two hours and can be combined with a river trip. For more information and reservations, call 800.270.8808.
